Watch: Strong Roots: Understanding Credit

Know Your Rights! As a community and as individuals, we simultaneously face staggering income inequality and unaffordable housing. The main thing this constant money squeeze causes is for most of us to carry a debt burden of some level. Whether it is medical debt, credit cards, a car loan, a payday loan, or something else — you have the right to know what creditors, employers, and landlords "see" about you when they examine your credit.

In this video, our HUD-certified Housing Counselor, Forrest Jenkins, walks through the basic information that is in a credit report, what it means, and how it is used to calculate credit scores. She also discusses three basic pieces of law that give you the right to correct any inaccurate information and protect your personal information.

This is just one of many areas covered by HUD Housing Counseling. If you would like to learn more about Housing Counseling, contact Forrest today.
